Chatou island, in the middle of the river Seine, inspired Renoir and Guy de Maupassant.
Pierre Auguste Renoir discovered Chatou and the Seine banks in 1868. Monet and him start painting on the flotting barge café "La Grenouillère". Water, light and boating are the beloved themes of the impressionnists. Renoir stayed regulaly in Chatou to paint the nature and the people.
